1) Go to your favorite station aggregator (like shoutcast.com)
2) Right click on the tune-in and copy the link (it should end in .pls)
3) Paste the link someplace you can see it
4) Add a new station to CastCatcher and type in the link
5) Hit save and you’re done!
Update: Unfortunately, shoutcast.com has changed the way their station links work so we will release a new version of CastCatcher to Apple later tonight to handle this change. Other shoutcast streams will still work with CastCatcher (we simply need to change the check for .pls in the name). Also, a request for m3u was submitted — we evaluate the amount of effort to get this into v1.2 and welcome more user suggestions!
Update 2: For the first reviewer trying to add WNYC-AM, look at the link on their website (left side, next to “MP3″) called “32k.” When you mouse over it you’ll see a link such as “http://www.wnyc.org/stream/am.pls” — you can add that to CastCatcher directly.
Update 3: Workaround for Shoutcast.com streams until new version is approved — Simply click the station name link on the shoutcast.com page (Station: NameLinkIsHere) and go to the station’s website. From there, find the link for their winamp/shoutcast/mp3 stream (again, it ends in .pls) and add that to CastCatcher.
You based your whole application on a now defunct way of adding stations? and now Im screwed out of $3.00. Go with Tuner. It works first time.
I bought your program and am completely unable to add any stations.
your software does not recognize the shoutcast.pls ids
I would like to add some stations – can you help?
thanks
lew
Hi Lew, as stated in the update, shoutcast changed their url format. The original intent was to keep users from inputting invalid URLs. It just means that CastCatcher needs a minor tweak to work with shoutcast’s new url format. We’re going to fix this and release it to Apple tonight. Thanks for your patience and we’re very sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi RZ, That’s not true. There’s simply a check for the station url format that’s a little too strict. It will properly load the playlists once we tighten this check. All stations whose playlist urls end in .pls will work fine (pretty much everything that doesn’t use some proprietary method to host the playlist). As stated, we are releasing a 1.01 version of CastCatcher immediately to take care of this issue so you will not be out your $3. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the frustration. In the mean time, you can go directly to the sites that shoutcast aggregates and get a direct link to their playlists, in many cases.
Sorry your having the problem.
I’m trying to listen to Bluegrass Radio and i can find no way to get their .pls
Try (link was at bluegrassradio.org): http://energy10.egihosting.com:6206/listen.pls
Well Thank You, Thank You, I put the right links in and it works perfectly on all the stations.
I am so sorry to be so slow.
And thank you for taking the time to make me a very happy CastCatcher user/listener.
Good wishes for much success.
Hello,
I just bought CastCatcher today with a plenty of hope that I would manage to listen my favorite FM station from Dubai called City 101.6 FM (http://asx.abacast.com/arabian_radio-city-24.asx).
I could not manage to find their .pls file. Need help.
Thanks!
Krish.
That’s a windows media stream, which is not supported by CastCatcher. CastCatcher supports MP3 and AAC streams.
Hey, I am not happy with your software. Can I get back my money pl.?
Thanks!
krish
Sure, but we don’t handle billing. Please contact Apple directly for billing questions.
Thanks a lot amro.
Allright, I am not going to ask for money back, because it has got several other nice radio stations which, I can play and enjoy good quality sound in my car. Just a little favor please. Do you have any address of a hindi fm radio station that I can play on CastCatcher.
Thanks a lot in advance.
I don’t have any off hand BUT I would definitely check out shoutcast.com, which is a radio station directory. I suggest searching for hindi and I bet you’ll find a bunch of great stations.
Yeah I know! I searched all hindi stations they have but, from none I could manage to get .pls file and also I am on mac so my right click button doesn’t work!
Gotcha, so on a mac, you can hold the control key on your keyboard and click — this will right click. You’re familiar with how to get the stream URL out of the playlist file right?
Thanks a lot. I manage to get the url as follows however, do you think it’s going to work on Castcatcher?
The link is as follows:
http://shoutcast.com/popupplayer/popupPlayerConfig.jsp
Nope, when you click that URL in the context of shoutcast.com, you will be redirected to the playlist file (on a mac you might even download it). You can then open it up in a text editor like TextEdit (comes with Mac OS) and grab the stream url contained in that file. Otherwise you might just search for hindi stations on the web and see if you can their their playlist directly. Another thing to try would be to just go to their website directly from shoutcast.com to see if they link to their playlist there.
hey amro,
I could not really figure out how to get the link!
Sorry about that. Why don’t you send me some hindi fm links such as city101.6 FM, radioteentaal, radiomirchi etc.
Thanks a lot!
